Weekly Project - Creating Ripples on the Web: #TheBriefcase

Post by Cathy »

Hey Everyone! 'The Briefcase' is the topic of our next Weekly Project!

The show begins by presenting families with a briefcase containing a large sum of money and a potentially life-altering decision: they can keep all of the money for themselves, or give all or part of it to another family in need.

Rarely if ever have we seen this type of struggle on national television - where couple's are looking at whether to give or receive such a life-changing amount of money.

So, it's not surprising that this show about 'Money', is causing people to blow up the internet with anger and controversy! 'The Briefcase' has the potential to break open some pretty cool issues for discussion, so let's be part of that discussion and create some Ripple's!

I did some googling on the latest news on this show and found something interesting. Someone started a petition calling for the cancellation of the show. As of right now it is 17,000, and growing. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/615/782/386/***/

Also a safe site that I use to watch online tv shows is this one. http://www.free-tv-video-online.info/
I live in the United States.

You can watch the episodes of the Briefcase here.

A perspective on questioning the premises of poverty, debt and general financial struggle and so how to not only look out for a briefcase to solve a family's problem or getting puzzled in sharing or not, we can instead make the system work for everyone and so we'll need no briefcases at all!

Thanks everyone for sharing!

Fascinating that even through TV series and such reality shows the point of how much MONEY affects people's lives & living is coming more and more to the surface and thus to the awareness of us all - I mean we all KNOW that from our personal experiences but even among family and friends money is one issue that's less talked-about. Now this series -consciously or unconsciously- is moving us all to consider and question the accepted 'money systems' and the reality we have created as 'world system' within our existence as life on earth.

In Episode 4 for example, an interesting point is seen by the couples when they meet at the end, namely that we are confronted with the importance and vitality of learning to differentiate between our Needs and our Wants; a point which was also very well elaborated on within the latest Economist Journey To Life blog posts, a series on 'Meconomics'. You'll find a comprehensive elaboration on Wants and Needs starting with the posts Want my Needs and Need my Wants to Be Satisfied and Wants & Needs in Your Daily Living

I cannot say what the intent of the series The Briefcase really is, but in general I find this is a series that forces people to really LOOK at the whole point, and we should all make it a point within our life/process to question our accepted realities and especially to introspect on our OWN relationship to money.

In general I find that everything we're confronted with within our world is pushing us to SEE what has been created, and our own truth within that (so does also this reality show).
Our connection to our source/core as life (self honesty) and from here our communication and connection among ourselves as society (common sense) will be the point to determine our reality, our existence - as it is already, and always has been: we, the people, are creating the world through our relationships, through who we are and become within the world system; but we haven't been doing that in awareness, we haven't been doing that in self honesty and common sense. Time for CHANGE, so that money no longer defines 'life on earth' and the reality of inequality and struggling that we've manifested; so that such 'charity'-sensationalism and such 'entertainment' is no longer 'relevant' and we can focus on LIFE and LIVING, and on the MATTER at hand - our existence as Humanity.

I also wrote a blog on the series, here it is: "The Briefcase" – The Devil in Disguise?
